Charles Darwin And The Nonsense Of Atheism

As Richard Dawkins the high priest of the belief of atheism loves to point out that Charles Darwin was an atheist, Darwin only became an atheist after the death of his daughter Annie in 1851, just eight years before his first publication of “The Origin of Species”. You will note though that atheism really had little to do with the bankrupt evolutionary theory. The atheism started to hit high gear when T.H. Huxley had taken the wheel. Huxley had a political agenda that was to rally against the religious authority that was in the British education system.

Evolution as a theory was around since the days of Saint Augustine, when he produced an exegesis on the Book of Genesis as he proposed that creation was “over a length of time that he dare not conjecture” (1). The idea of evolution was not totally rejected by the Church back then obviously! The theory of evolution predated Darwin; Pierre-Louis Maupertius  wrote:

“Could we not explain in this manner (fortunate change) how the multiplication of the most dissimilar species could have sprung from just two individuals? They would owe their origin to some fortuitous productions in which the elementary parts deviated from the order maintained in the parents. Each degree of error would have created a new species, and as a result of repeated deviations the infinite diversities of animals that we see today would have come about” (2)

There was and still is this battle that the evolutionist atheists are fighting against Christianity (not “religion”…Christianity!) as the atheist wants to believe “they” are a cosmic accident that just “happened”, then accountability for their actions goes out the window! Besides why would anyone believe what they say? Their brains may not have evolved that far, as to say what they say is indeed correct? By their own words they claim they are just a bag of chemicals. I wouldn’t trust them from that standpoint alone!

“Atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out it has no meaning: Just as. if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark” C.S. Lewis (3)

My Third Question To atheists: Do You Feel That atheism Is A Worldview?

Yes – 0
No – 9

Okay, we must first define the definition of “worldview” is; A worldview is propositions, assumptions, and beliefs that someone uses to relate to the world around them. So of course atheism is a worldview. This is a short post. However, it does not deserve to be any longer. Atheists simply have not thought this question out.

Evolution Vs. God

Yes, this is s plug for the Ray Comfort DVD “Evolution Vs. God”. This video can be seen at the site http://www.evolutionvsgod.com/. I feel incredibly sad that such so called educated “brights” as Richard Dawkins says that he and his atheist (actually agnostic) friends claim to believe Darwinian Evolution? What faith they have in theory with NO PROOF! The religion of evolution is going down my friends!

Speaking of friends, I have a friend that used to do airport security in Manila. I asked him if he ever had to deal with a bomb scare and he said he had to deal with one, and it turned out to be a hoax. I got to thinking that seeing a suitcase or a backpack just laying in an airport terminal needs to be looked at as the real thing until proven that it indeed a fake. Much like Christianity, it must be looked at as if it is real from the atheist point of view. If the atheist is wrong, then it is WORSE THAN A BOMB! Can you imagine a security expert just walking up to a suspected bomb and declaring it to be fake without doing the proper research and observation to determine the reality of it being an explosive device?

Today I ask that you pray for the atheist and pro-evolutionist that you know. I can’t swallow the idea of knowing someone believes the bad science of macroevolution and going to hell for that belief!

Great Creation Quotes:

Some quotes I have found both insightful and compelling. Enjoy.

“The reason we accepted Darwinism even without proof, is because we didn’t want God to interfere with our sexual mores.”
Julian Huxley

Darwinism is based on an a priori[prior] commitment to materialism, not on a philosophical neutral assessment of the evidence. Separate the philosophy from the science, and the proud tower collapses.”
Phillip E. Johnson

“The creation – evolution debate is not about religion versus science or the Bible versus science – it’s about good science versus bad science. Likewise, it’s not about faith versus reason – it’s about reasonable faith versus unreasonable faith.”
Norman Geisler

“My high school science teacher once told me that much of Genesis is false. But since my high school teacher did not prove he was God by rising from the dead, I’m going to believe Jesus instead.”
Andy Stanley

“The complexity of the simplest known type of cell is so great that it is impossible to accept that such an object could have been thrown together suddenly by some kind of freakish, vastly improbable event. Such an occurrence would be indistinguishable from a miracle.’
Michael Denton, atheist Microbiologist

“In grammar school they taught me that a frog turning into a prince was a fairy tale. In the university they taught me that a frog turning into a prince was a fact!”
Ron Carlson

“Only a rookie who knows nothing about science would say science takes away from faith. If you really study science, it will bring you closer to God.”
James Tour, Nanoscientist

“Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind.”
Albert Einstein

People almost invariably arrive at their own beliefs not on the basis of proof but on the basis of what they find attractive”
Blaise Pascal

“We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty”
Simon Peter

“Why would the apostles lie?…If they lied, what was their motive, what did they get out of it? What they got out of it was misunderstanding, rejection, persecution, torture, and martyrdom. Hardly a list of perks!”
Peter Kreeft

“The Ten Commandments of Apologetics”

An Excerpt from the book, “Engaging the Closed Minded: Presenting Your Faith to the Confirmed Unbeliever” by Dan Story.

The Ten Commandments of Apologetics:

I. Gospel first, apologetics second: Always try to start a witnessing encounter with the Gospel. The job of apologetics is to pave the way for a presentation of the Gospel. It is pre-evangelism. It is wrong to assume that every unbeliever harbors intellectual objections to Christianity. Hence not every evangelistic situation will require an apologetics defense.

II. Stay with the essentials: Most non-Christians know little about the Bible or what Christians believe and what they think they know is often in error. When sharing the Gospel, avoid theological subjects that will be confusing to unbelievers, like eschatology or predestination. Confirm the message of the Gospel by sharing your personal testimony demonstrating the life-transforming power of the Holy Spirit in your own life.

III. Remember your goal: The goal of apologetics is to overcome intellectual obstacles to Christianity so that unbelievers are willing to consider the Gospel. Apologetics is not theology. You don’t have to give the definitive theological answer to any issue, only an appropriate answer that can be defended scripturally.

IV. Never give people a problem: Never force apologetics on someone or create illegitimate reasons to use it. The impulse is to go out and confront everyone you know and challenge their misbeliefs. Apologetics is not an excuse to argue. Often Christian love and understanding may be all that is needed.

V. Find out the real problem: Sometimes unbelievers will raise issues against Christianity that do not mirror their real concerns. They may feel more comfortable discussing a popular argument rather than what’s really bothering them. Whatever the issues, you must identify them and respond accordingly.

VI. Avoid distractions: Apologetics deals with intellectual obstacles, not moral issues. For example, that a man and woman are living together out of wedlock should not prevent you from sharing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Nor should it interfere with a discussion of apologetics. God will deal with the moral issues once a person sees his or her need to become a Christian.

VII. Apply evangelistic and missionary techniques: The ultimate goal of apologetics is evangelistic. The purpose is to bring people as quickly and as efficiently as possible to the point where they renounce their non-Christian worldviews and accept Jesus as Lord. It also involves seeking unbelievers on their own turf.

VIII. Know what unbelievers believe: Be as a missionary who before going into a foreign culture learns as much as possible about their religious beliefs, language, social customs, ethical behavior, cultural taboos, and so on.

IV. Don’t be intimidated: Most non-Christians have little knowledge of the Bible and few have read even a portion of it. They seldom ask sophisticated questions or need in-depth answers. If you do encounter questions you can’t answer or arguments you can’t refute, admit it.

X. Keep the right attitude: Don’t be self-righteous or pushy. Try to create an environment that encourages the work of the Holy Spirit.

Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you’re living the way you are, and always with the utmost courtesy. Keep a clear conscience before God so that when people throw mud at you, none of it will stick. They’ll end up realizing that they’re the ones who need a bath.€ – 1 Peter 3:15-16 The Message

These are the words and ideas from Dan Story. I wonder how many of you disagree or disagree with any of Dan Story’s commandments? I am personally having an issue with “The Message” translation, but again that is a personal opinion. As I have always thought that, that translation seems to “dumb it down a bit” so I will provide you the NASB version of 1 Peter 3:15-16:

15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; 16 and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.

I would be curious as to your feelings to any of these “Ten Commandments of Apologetics” and if you agree or disagree with them?

My Favorite Christian Apologetic’s Quotations Pt.3

“If we Christians don’t continue to share the gospel and push the envelope, the envelope will close in on us. If we maintain a ‘silent witness,’ there will be no witness, and Christianity will die in America.”

Ray Thorne

“All truth is given by revelation, either general or special, and it must be received by reason. Reason is the God-given means for discovering the truth that God discloses, whether in his world or his Word. While God wants to reach the heart with truth, he does not bypass the mind.”
Jonathan Edwards

“The human paradox is that we perceive so many signs of value and significance conveyed to us in our encounter with reality, yet all meaning is threatened by the apparent finality of death. If the universe is truly a cosmos, if the world is really intelligible through and through, then this life by itself cannot be the whole story.”
John Polkinghorne

Richard Dawkins: “The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.”

C.S. Lewis: “If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning.”

Point – Counterpoint

“Human DNA contains more organized information than the Encyclopedia Britannica. If the full text of the encyclopedia were to arrive in computer code from outer space, most people would regard this as proof of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence. But when seen in nature, it is explained as the workings of random forces.”

George Sim Johnson

“A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God’s truth is attacked and yet would remain silent.”
John Calvin

“Science itself is steadily nailing the lid on atheism’s coffin.”
Lee Strobel

“Atheism is so senseless. When I look at the solar system. I see the earth at the right distance from the sun to receive the proper amounts of heat and light. This did not happen by chance.”

Sir Isaac Newton

“To be an atheist you must have infinite knowledge in order to know absolutely that there is no God. But to have infinite knowledge, you would have to be God yourself. It’s hard to be God yourself and an atheist at the same time! The Bible says in Psalm 14:1, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is not God.’”
Ron Carlson and Ed Decker

“It’s natural to be skeptical of a story like Noah. However, the greatest miracle in the Bible is not Noah and the flood. The greatest miracle in the Bible is recorded in the first verse: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” If that miracle is true, then every miracle in the Bible is at least possible (including Noah’s Ark). If God created the universe, then He can do whatever He wants inside it.”

Is Being An Atheist Bad For Your Health?

In my experience with atheists, I have found most of them to be unhappy individuals (not all, but most of my encounters). I have found them to be not only unhappy, but downright miserable when it comes to chat rooms or forum debates. I took a bit of time out for research and was somewhat surprised to find medical and psychological reports that were shocking. Here is some of what I found;

A Connection between Atheism and Suicide?

In 2004, the American Journal of Psychiatry had reported the following:

“Religiously unaffiliated subjects had significantly more lifetime suicide attempts and more first-degree relatives who committed suicide than subjects who endorsed a religious affiliation. Unaffiliated subjects were younger, less often married, less often had children, and had less contact with family members. Furthermore, subjects with no religious affiliation perceived fewer reasons for living, particularly fewer moral objections to suicide. In terms of clinical characteristics, religiously unaffiliated subjects had more lifetime impulsivity, aggression, and past substance use disorder. No differences in the level of subjective and objective depression, hopelessness, or stressful life events were found.

http://www.adherents.com reported the following in respect to Atheism and Suicide:

“Pitzer College sociologist Phil Zuckerman compiled country-by-country survey, polling and census numbers relating to atheism, agnosticism, disbelief in God and people who state they are non-religious or have no religious preference. These data were published in the chapter titled “Atheism: Contemporary Rates and Patterns” in The Cambridge Companion to Atheism, ed. by Michael Martin, Cambridge University Press: Cambridge, UK (2005). In examining various indicators of societal health, Zuckerman concludes about suicide:

“Concerning suicide rates, this is the one indicator of societal health in which religious nations fare much better than secular nations. According to the 2003 World Health Organization’s report on international male suicides rates (which compared 100 countries), of the top ten nations with the highest male suicide rates, all but one (Sri Lanka) are strongly irreligious nations with high levels of atheism. It is interesting to note, however, that of the top remaining nine nations leading the world in male suicide rates, all are former Soviet/Communist nations, such as Belarus, Ukraine, and Latvia. Of the bottom ten nations with the lowest male suicide rates, all are highly religious nations with statistically insignificant levels of organic atheism.”

A Connection between Atheism and Obesity?

“Results are based on telephone interviews conducted as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index survey Jan. 2-July 28, 2010, with a random sample of 554,066 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, selected using random-digit-dial sampling.”

“Very religious Americans make healthier choices than their moderately religious and nonreligious counterparts across all four of the Healthy Behavior Index metrics, including smoking, healthy eating, and regular exercise. Smoking is one area of particular differentiation between the very religious and less religious Americans, with the nonreligious 85% more likely to be smokers than those who are very religious.”

As a footnote to this Gallup poll, the Bible declares “Gluttony to be a sin”

Proverbs 23: 2 and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.

As a Christian I truly believe we need to show them that Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life. These are simply polls and polls are never 100% accurate, however it does leave a question mark for sure.

Atheism: Is It Feasible?

When you ask an atheist what their worldview is, they will answer boldly state the negative position and that is that “God does not exist”. But can that position actually show a stitch of evidence to prove itself? To begin with they cannot prove a negative, demonstrating that there is NO God.
Some atheists will say that they “lack belief in a God”. Well my German Shepard also “lacks belief in God”. The atheist is in a very tough position to prove a negative.

On a larger scale, the atheist must invalidate evidences for the existence of God! Simply put; if the unbeliever says “there is no God”, then that unbeliever must know everything? Pushed on the subject they will state that the origin of the universe and life itself was a cosmic accident called “ The Big Bang”. This theory implies that through odds too great to count, all the correct particles in the “beginning” collided and created the universe! I would like to now call the theory “The Big Implosion”. The theory falls all over itself. Come on now, life came from non-life? Where did those supposed “particles” come from?

No the Atheist position is NOT feasible!

Psalm 14: 1-3
1 The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good.

2 The LORD looks down from heaven
on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God.
3 All have turned away, all have become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.

Militant Atheism and the Communist/Modern Day Connection?

Is there really a connection between Militant Atheism and Communism? “Yes” says Harold J Berman, a specialist in Soviet Law from Harvard University. “Militant Atheism was the official Religion, one might say, of the Soviet Union and the Communist Party was the established church”. “The standard Marxist feeling that religion was the opiate of the masses” (1). Also it was that the Russian Orthodox Church “Had always been a pillar of czarism”(2). The churches had strict orders under separation of church and state to destroy all churches, mosques, synagogues, mandirs, madarasahs, religious monuments and also to remove by deportation to Siberia those who had faiths in other religions or beliefs! (3)

Churches in the Soviet Union were under strict rules and forbade giving to the poor, education activities, publish any literature, or have any special meetings. Church property was expropriated. Religious teachings were banned from any educational institute as all was Government ran. Pre Russian Revolution there were 50,000 Orthodox clergymen, by 1939 there was roughly 300. In 1922 by itself the atheist system had murdered 2691 secular priests, 1962 Monks and 3447 Nuns because of their faith! (4)

The late Christopher Hitchens and now believer in God said “One of Lenin’s great achievements, in my opinion, is to create a secular Russia. The power of the Russian Orthodox Church, which was an absolute warren of backwardness and evil and superstition, is probably never going to recover from what he did to it” (5) The bottom line though is that militant atheism has failed to extinguish Christianity! Thanks to many martyrs that gave up their lives in underground churches.

When I hear or read statements that the only difference between “New atheism” and ”atheism” in general is that the New atheists are getting in Christians faces and making a lot more noise. This does worry me. We must stand up to the atheist or are we going to allow this to happen again?

1 Cor. 5: 6 Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough?

This is outright spiritual warfare, and believe me it is going to get a lot worse unless we collectively stand together in the Church. The body of Christ must get its act together and stop the division that is creeping into the Church! Hold the atheist’s feet to the fire! If they make a bold statement like “God doesn’t exist” then ask them how they know that? They sure spend a lot of time and energy trying to prove to the believer that God does not exist. Why?
