Some critics and skeptics have stated and maintain the opinion that the tomb of Christ was never visited. They claim that Jesus appeared “spiritually” to the disciples and not in body, with the crucifixion scars.
This can be refuted by going to the holy scriptures for evidence.
It was the women that first went to the tomb as we read in Mark 16:1;
“When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might come and anoint Him.” The women came to complete the burial procedures. Mark 16:4 continues;
4 Looking up, they *saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large.
John arrived next and saw the burial clothes, and then Peter entered the tomb and saw the clothes as well as a face linen.
John 20:3-8, 3 So Peter and the other disciple went forth, and they were going to the tomb. 4 The two were running together, and the other disciple ran ahead faster than Peter and came to the tomb first; 5 and stooping and looking in, he *saw the linen wrappings lying there; but he did not go in. 6 And so Simon Peter also came, following him, and entered the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7 and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed.
The guards also made a thorough search of the tomb and reported it to the Jewish leaders.
Matthew 28:11, 11 Now while they were on their way, some of the guards came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.
The guards would not have come to an agreement to lie if they could come up with a viable excuse for the missing body. Saying the tomb was never visited as a theory makes little sense, and certainly does not explain the resurrection appearances and mass conversions of people shortly after that. God be praised!
