Muslims surprisingly to me will state that the bible predicts the coming of Muhammad. I just witnessed to a Muslim, by starting to wish him a happy Good Friday. He then asked me why we Christians call it Good Friday, and then my witness began. The witness quickly went from the Gospel to him stating that the Muslim people also believe in Jesus but not as the Son of God.
After explaining to him the virgin birth and the Trinity his response was that Muhammad is mentioned in the bible. I asked him “where that was in the bible?” He replied that that is what Islam teaches and he didn’t know the verse. The following scripture is what he was referring to:
Deuteronomy 18:15-18
“The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, 16 according to all you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’ 17 And the LORD said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good. 18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him (NKJV).”
With proper exegesis on this scripture, the word “brethren” refers to the Jews. It makes no sense that God or Allah, as they say, would raise a leader coming from their enemy the Arabs!
Jesus fulfilled this prophecy without stain. He came from His Jewish brethren, Jesus also called Himself a Prophet: Luke 13: 33 33 “Nevertheless I must journey on today and tomorrow and the next day; for it cannot be that a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem” NASB. As well His own brethren called Him a Prophet: Matthew 21: 11, “And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.”, Luke 7:16, “16 Fear gripped them all, and they began glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has visited His people!” John 9:17, 17 So they said to the blind man again, “What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?” And he said, “He is a prophet.”
I will post another blog on the difference of lineage between Muhammad and Jesus Christ at a later date.
Muhammad is not in the bible, plain as that. The Muslim people will say that they believe that Jesus was a Prophet, but only that. We must pray that the Holy Spirit comes upon the Islamic people and they turn to the one True God! This Easter Weekend please keep in mind and all the people that need our witness as Christians to save them from God’s Wrath! Happy Resurrection Day!
God Bless
