Animals Raised to the Level of Human?

I noticed today that Global News Calgary has reported on an evil act of animal cruelty. Despicable! However, I am wondering why the writer Sarolta Saskiw used the word “Murder”? Another attempt of the media to upgrade animals to human levels? It was no typo as the word was used twice. See report below:

Raymond woman says 20 of her farm animals were beaten and murdered

We have already seen that “Cecil the Lion” has been spoken of as being “murdered” also! See the NBC report:

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/cecil-lion-zimbabwe-safari-operator-says-animal-was-murdered-n404336

This has been going on for years now. I first personally noticed this when Seal Pups in Canada were being called “Baby” Seals, as an obvious political move to use a human connection as to appeal to human emotions. Honestly, if the reading public was six years old I could get it!:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3043467/Shocking-photos-baby-seals-clubbed-death-Canada-s-ice-floes-bloody-cull-nearly-500-000-gets-way.html

Chimpanzees are now apparently “Human” as there is a push in the courts to have them labeled as “Human”! One article even states that “Chimps are almost more human than we are”!

What is the Christian perspective on all this? Man was given authority over animals. Genesis 2: 19-20:

19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam, there was not found a helper suitable for him.

Man was given authority over animals.

The animals were also given to us for food; Genesis 9:3:

3 Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant.

And we Christians are to look after the environment: Genesis 1: 26

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

We are to have compassion over the animals: Proverbs 12: 10

A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal,

But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.

However, beasts don’t have rights the same way that humans do. If I need to clarify, animals and humans are different; humans are the ones made in God’s image, not animals.

When you see or hear such words as “baby” and when an animal is killed, and it is said it was “murdered,” please evaluate the statement and question the source! It is an apparent hotbed today in an upside down world. I am an animal lover that has had a few dogs, but I would never use that terminology nor thought process to end with the conclusion an animal is human. God created us in His likeness, not the animals in His image!

God Bless

  1. I have compassion for both Human and Animal.

I know what you mean, but I think you shouldn’t equate compassion for animals with a lack of compassion for humans. These are not mutually exclusive feelings.

I believe you are engaging in a traditional Liberal v.s. Conservative value comparison. Labeling something as Liberal or Conservative makes it neither innately good or bad.

It may not be appropriate to equate animals with humans, but it may be appropriate to recognize that all God’s creatures have the right to be respected and not tortured or killed senselessly, including human babies. As I already said: “We are to have compassion over the animals”: Proverbs 12: 10

As for myself, I eat meat, but I won’t eat “babies” (veal) and I won’t eat anything that is cooked alive (lobster). I don’t believe in abortion as a form of birth control, but I do recognize that there are circumstances where it may be necessary, where the life of the mother is at question, for instance. I am against war because I am against killing others, but I’m not against suicide because I’m a Libertarian (that is a William Buckley conservative) and I believe that everyone has the right to choose what they want for themselves, even if what they want is to go to Hell, as long as it is for themselves only.

  3. It gets into semantics. What I meant was that the “usage” of baby (although I stand corrected to a degree on the term “baby”), has been that humans want to give animals human status and above human status, and the dictionary term has been revised recently. I will post an article on the word “baby”. I wish these people would put as much emotion into the killing of unborn children because pro abortion killers are still arguing whether a “human fetus” is indeed human? This is ridiculous and is my thesis of the article.

    Merriam Webster: Definition of BABY
1a (1) : an extremely young child; especially : infant (2) : an extremely young animal
    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/baby

    Definition of MURDER
1: the crime of unlawfully killing a person especially with malice aforethought
    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/murder

Looks like officially in respect to animals, BABY is okay, but MURDER is out.

    However:
“We are to have compassion over the animals”: Proverbs 12: 10,
and an alternate definition of MURDER is:
    2 b : something outrageous or blameworthy

So senseless killing or outrageous slaughter of animals could be called murder, though that may be pushing it a little.

But BABY is still officially correct English usage.

  5. Can I post “beacon apologetics blog posts” to Rhemalog?

  6. Thank you I have joined!
    God Bless!

  7. Thanks Brian! Actually what we REALLY meant by that clause is that the platform frowns against the promotion of those negative beliefs. If the purpose of your posts is to expose wrong and satanic teachings…we are up for that!
So Brian….Thanks…You will be highly welcome!

  8. The page looks great! I have one question though. My blog has many posts about the sins of Mormonism, Roman Catholicism, the Occult etc. I disagree with these beliefs, I do not promote them quite the opposite. I feel it important by God’s Word to expose apostasies, if you will, a defense for the Christian Religion. I cannot compromise this and have noticed as one of your terms is: “9. Discussions centring or revolving around non-Christian issues like homosexuality/lesbianism, Occultism, Scientology, Atheism, Universalism and Satanism are strongly NOT allowed.”
I do not think I would qualify for your page?

    In Jesus,
    Brian
