Do “Real” Christians Sin?

Facebook can be a great tool for discussing one’s faith and evangelizing. But every once in a while I come upon a certain brand of Christian that claims that they do not sin anymore. They walk a complete Godly life without back-sliding or a sinful thought. Well I personally do not believe that there is a single human being in or out of the Christian faith that is sinless. Jesus is the only person who comes to mind.

I submitted a comment to a post on facebook that headlines: “I cannot believe that anyone who calls themselves a Christian would still be sinning!” My comment was in the lines of: “You must be careful with such a broad stroked statement”. Then quickly (within seconds) I was asked if I still sin and I said “yes”. Oh man did the gates open up! I was accused of being a heretic to even suggest I still sinned before I could even address what I was stating! I was mocked and literally had to remove them as friends as we as Christians are not to openly mock one another. If you have a disagreement you are to privately bring up your issue I a different form, such as a private message etc.

So is it possible that a “Real” Christian could still be sinning?

Living a Christian life does not mean that in the human condition of abiding in a fallen world we do not sin! Is there still a struggle with sin as regenerate Christian? YES! Even the Apostle Paul struggled with sin Read Roman 7: 14-25

14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. 16 But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good. 17 So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
21 I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good.22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, 23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.
If the Apostle Paul struggled, a so-called “real” Christian is in good company.
That being said, it is not alright to sin. We still have no excuse or justification to sin!
When a Christian sins, we have Jesus to cleanse us of that sin. We as Christians are commanded not to abide or live in sin, however we will stumble now and then, it is inevitable. We are not to purposely live in sin.
1 John 1: 6 -10
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

We ask Jesus for forgiveness.
The commandments that Jesus told us to follow and keep are:

Matthew 22: 36-37
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

LOVE GOD

Matthew 22: 38
39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR

John 13: 34
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

LOVE ONE ANOTHER

Matthew 28: 18-20
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS

I have heard someone say, “Darkness is not the problem in this world, it is the absence of light!” Go out into the world and love. Preach the gospel, defend it and give all glory to God.

God Bless
