What Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Believe? Is It Christian?

What should you question the JW’s on when they come knocking? Well here is a collection of JW beliefs and teachings, and no, they are NOT Christian!

Each of the six creative days of God in Genesis 1, was 7000 years long.
Therefore, Man was created toward the end of 42,000 years of earth’s
preparation, Let God be True, p. 168.

The universe is billions of years old; Your will Be Done on Earth, p. 43.

There are much more heresies that I did not indicate. When a JW comes to your door, we as Christians are to give them the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though they are persistent, we as Christians still need to remember they are lost, souls. They are also made in the image of God, so please be respectful but direct at the same time.

What Do Mormon’s Believe? Is It Christian?

Here are just some of the heresies that the Mormon’s perpetuate!

Joseph Smith: If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation. There is no salvation [the context is the full gospel including exaltation to Godhood] outside the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 670).

The Book Of Mormon: The book of Mormon is more correct than the Bible, (History of the Church, 4:461).

The Devil: Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and we were all born as siblings in heaven to them both, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163).
The Devil was born as a spirit after Jesus “in the morning of pre-existence,” (Mormon Doctrine, p. 192)

The Atonement: “Jesus paid for all our sins when He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane,” (Laurel Rohlfing, “Sharing Time: The Atonement,” Friend, Mar. 1989, p. 39.).

God: God used to be a man on another planet, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321; Joseph Smith, Times and Seasons, vol. 5, p. 613-614; Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 345; Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 333).

God is in the form of a man, (Joseph Smith, Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p. 3).
God had sexual relations with Mary to make the body of Jesus, (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 4, 1857, p. 218; vol. 8, p. 115).
God resides near a star called Kolob, (Pearl of Great Price, p. 34-35; Mormon Doctrine, p. 428).

Becoming a God: After you become a good Mormon, you have the potential of becoming a god, (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345-347, 354.)

Many Gods: There are many gods, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163).

The Trinity: The trinity is three separate Gods: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. “That these three are separate individuals, physically distinct from each other, is demonstrated by the accepted records of divine dealings with man,” (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 35).

Heaven: There are three levels of heaven: telestial, terrestrial, and celestial, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 348).

The Holy Ghost: The Holy Ghost is a male personage, A Marvelous Work and a Wonder, (Le Grand Richards, Salt Lake City, 1956, p. 118; Journal of Discourses, vol. 5, p. 179).

Prophets: We need prophets today, the same as in the Old Testament, (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 444-445).

Salvation: “This grace is an enabling power that allows men and women to lay hold on eternal life and exaltation after they have expended their best efforts,” (LDS Bible Dictionary, p. 697).

Jesus: “The birth of the Saviour was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood – was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers,” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 8, p. 115)

Whenever you hear someone say that a Mormon is a Christian, you might want to bring up a few of these issues. A great website to go to is http://www.mrm.org
There are many, many more heresies that are taught. If you know anyone that follows this cult, please pray for them to receive the Holy Spirit. Please witness to them with the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. This comes from the writing of Joseph Smith:

“God is in the still small voice. In all these affidavits, indictments, it is all of the devil–all corruption. Come on! Ye prosecutors! Ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on the top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A vast majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him, but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet . . . ” (History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 408-409).

Did you read it? Joseph Smith said he did more than Jesus Christ to hold the Church together!

Question On Woman Christian Apologists:

Quick question: If you believe that as the Bible reads we are not to have woman pastors, “1 Timothy 2: 12-14 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.” Then what do you say about woman apologists?

The Parables: A Hard Truth

Did you know that Jesus spoke in parables so that some would not understand, repent nor be forgiven? Read Mark 4: 10-12 (NASB)

10 As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve, began asking Him about the parables. 11 And He was saying to them, “To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables, 12 so that while seeing, they may see and not perceive, and while hearing, they may hear and not understand, otherwise they might return and be forgiven.”

Also, God desires that all be saved. Read 1 Timothy 2: 3-4 (NASB)

3 This is good and acceptable in sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

So is this a contradiction? No, it is not, as God has a loving desire for ALL to be saved. That does not mean that everyone will be as He needs to issue a righteous judgment on ALL that have not trusted in Jesus.

Can A Believer Commit The Unforgivable Sin Of Blasphemy?

Blasphemy The Unforgivable Sin: Matthew 12: 31-32 (NIV)

31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

Blasphemy as a term is sometimes misunderstood, but by biblical definition, it is as Jesus defined it in Matthew 12:18 (NIV)

18 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
the one I love, in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.

The penalty for blasphemy in the Old Testament was execution! In Rabbinic Law, blasphemy involved speaking of the divine name. It also was considered blasphemous to lead people to pagan gods.

Matthew 12: 22-32 (NASB) reads:

“Then there was brought to Him a demon-possessed man who was blind and dumb, and He healed him so that the dumb man spoke and saw. 23And all the multitudes were amazed, and began to say, “This man cannot be the Son of David, can he?” 24But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This man casts out demons only by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.” 25And knowing their thoughts He said to them, “Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself shall not stand. 26″And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom stand?27″And if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? Consequently, they shall be your judges. 28″But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.29″ , Or how can anyone enter the strong man’s house and carry off his proper unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. 30″He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters. 31″Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. 32″And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come,”

In verse 24 the Pharisees accuse Jesus of summoning up Beelzebub the ruler of demons to cure the demon possessed man. They accused Jesus of performing this miracle with the help of the devil!

A believer today could not commit this sin. Read John 10: 25-30 (NIV)

25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 The Father and I are one.”

I challenge you to find any biblical scripture where a believer has committed this unforgivable sin.

Roman 6: 11-14 (NIV)

11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

Terminology Tuesday: Egalitarianism

Egalitarianism is unbiblical and is generally the notion of equality. The egalitarian in politics is where men and women can equally hold office. In the biblical sense this is forbidden as in Church leadership. This is very clear in 1 Timothy 2: 12-13 (NASB)
12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

What Is The Swoon Theory? Is It Even Possible?

The theory is that Jesus didn’t die on the cross. He survived the beatings and crucifixion was put in a cool tomb, and that revived Him. He then pushed away from the stone at the entrance of the tomb that was watched by a Roman soldier with the promise of death from his superiors should anyone tamper with the tomb. Then made His presence to His disciples as the Risen Messiah. Let’s look into this “theory” and it’ an impossibility.

First Jesus suffered six trials, trials in which He was beaten severely; Matthew 26: 65-67 (NIV)

65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”
“He is worthy of death,” they answered.
67 Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”

Then Jesus suffered “scourging.” This was done with a whip that had bits of metal and glass embedded in it on several leather straps extending from it. He was tied down and hit over 30 times with it. When anyone was hit with these tools of torture, they would have the flesh opened and ripped off, sometimes exposing internal organs and bones. Not everyone escaped this punishment alive!

A crown of thorns was jammed into His head undoubtedly opening up His skin, and would cause excessive bleeding. Have you even nicked yourself shaving? Matthew 27: 27-31 (NIV)

Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

Now the crucifixion! I am assuming that most know the details of that barbaric punishment. This torture is almost unfathomable. His wrists were nailed to the cross, and His shoulders would have been dislocated when the piece was risen into place. His feet were nailed to a small foot shelf, and Jesus would have to push up on them just to breathe. Of course with all the bleeding He would soon become dehydrated. His chest cavity filled with body fluids. John 19: 28-30 (NIV)

28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

That point was when Jesus’ heart ruptured causing the fluids to enter His chest cavity. A soldier then rammed a spear through His side and “water and blood” flowed out. John 19: 33-37

33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. 35 The man who saw it has given testimony and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. 36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,” 37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”

Jesus’ body was then brought to the tomb and was in there for three days unattended by anyone including physicians.

Then there would be the moving of the large stone. With a Roman Guard sitting idly by knowing he would suffer the same punishment Jesus had if anyone should steal the body!

Last but not least, Jesus would have to be mobile up and walking in such a state of disfigurement and obvious wounds that would be impossible for any mortal to do so! Try walking with just a sprained ankle! Then He met his disciples in that state of appearance. No wonder they were not certain it was their Lord. God is praised our Savior has risen!

So much for the “swoon theory!”
