Does The Bible Contradict The Time Of The Second Coming?

Atheists and some Theists will state that the time of Jesus’ second coming is contradictory in the Bible. Also, they seem to have some difficulty understanding “Generation” “You” and “These Things.”They will cite Mark 13: 30-32, Matthew 24: 36, and Luke 21: 32 as their selling points. But do the times written in these Scriptures contradict each other? Let’s get deeper into the scriptures mentioned;

Mark 13: 30-32
30 Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. 32 But of that day or hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.

Mark 13: 30 is a reference to the events surrounding the destruction of the temple.
Mark 13: 31-32 is scripture describing the terror that will happen during the second coming, of which Jesus clearly states that not even He knows the time “but the Father alone.”
The two times mentioned above are spoken to the disciples together because of the terror of the first-century invasion of Palestine by the Romans. Matthew 24:2 describes it in more detail;

2 And He said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.”

Let’s look at Matthew 24: 36 now:

36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.

Again Jesus clearly says that only the Father knows alone. Are we seeing any contradictions so far?

Now let’s look at Luke 21: 32;

32 Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

“You”, “Generation”, “These Things” In this scripture it appears to have been scribed for the original audience and some would have actually witnessed the carnage of Jerusalem, “Heaven and earth will pass away is clearly referring to the end times and the second coming.

The idea that unbelievers cry “what do you do with these scriptures, they contradict themselves”? The answer is that people need to do research before using old arguments that THEY don’t even seem to understand. The Bible is a challenging read no question, however getting into the Word is very exciting and I learn more and more each day.

God Bless
